Housing Tidbits and Round-up

Housing news crossing our desk that didn’t turn into full blog posts this week:

  • TDHCA and TSHAC received $620k through the fifth round of the National Foreclosure Mitigation Counseling program (a program of the 2008 Housing and Economic Recovery Act).  They expect to pass these funds through to local non-profits to reimburse counseling for up to 1,500 families.
  • The National Housing Conference and the Center for Housing Policy released a research review highlighting the known benefits of housing counseling programs in preventing foreclosure.  During the 2011 budget negotiations, lawmakers agreed to cut HUD’s entire funding line for nonprofit housing counseling groups going forward.
  • Corelogic released a report estimating that 10.1% of mortgages in Texas are “upside down” with negative equity.  Fort Worth tops the ranking of Texas cities, with a 12.2% negative equity rate.
