The Poverty Law Section of the State Bar of Texas honored Texas Housers co-director John Henneberger this week at their annual meeting with an Impact Award.
The Impact Award honors a Texas attorney or advocate for a recent, significant poverty law case or work that has had broad impact on people of modest means in Texas or made a significant impact on the lives of low-income Texans by protecting and promoting their legal rights.
Henneberger was honored for his work in promoting fair housing and helping low-income communities of color across the state gain the policy knowledge to demand equal treatment, and the right to have a say in where they live. This model has helped grassroots community leaders develop and advance their own housing and community development solutions to improve their lives, homes, and neighborhoods.
Texas RioGrande Legal Aid attorneys Tracy Odvody Figueroa and Jerry Wesevich (pictured above to the right and left of Henneberger) were also honored for their work to ensure a just and equitable recovery for hurricane survivors.
