Texas Housers is looking for an educator to lead our next class of the Houser Academy

For more than 30 years, Texas Housers – the state’s foremost advocate for equity and justice in housing and community development – has supported the efforts of Texans with low incomes to participate in the development and implementation of public policy and programs that affect their homes and communities.

This new role is an opportunity to apply one’s skills as an educator to develop and facilitate learning in the second class of the Texas Houser Academy. In 2022, the academy is dedicated to supporting the development of the skills of grassroots leaders in Texas to work to see:

  • Tenants know how to protect their homes by exercising their rights under law and in evictions;
  • Government rent assistance is made available equitably, efficiently and expeditiously;
  • The eviction process operates properly and fairly in courts in compliance with COVID orders;
  • Landlords make housing available without discrimination; and
  • Tenant leaders, policy makers and the public understand the causes of the crisis and solutions.

The Houser Academy provides an intensive year long practicum and peer learning experience for 15 grassroots community activists from cities across Texas. The Houser Academy is supported by Texas Housers staff who have backgrounds in public policy, civil rights, housing, community organizing, and neighborhood planning.
