Texas Housers and the Northeast Action Collective (NAC) have fought since 2018 to compel the Texas General Land Office to repair their discriminatory distribution of CDGB-MIT flood mitigation funds. Today, HUD released its finding that GLO’s diversion of funding away from communities of color was intentional discrimination, and is referring its finding to the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) for enforcement under the Fair Housing Act.
We join HUD in this call on the Department of Justice to uphold the civil rights of the communities of color that Texas GLO has deprived of essential flood mitigation dollars. And we also call on Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham and Gov. Greg Abbott to quickly resolve this complaint by funding the projects to protect these vulnerable neighborhoods currently unprotected from preventable floods.
Please refer to our full press release and statement on HUD’s finding and referral in coordination with our co-complainant, the Northeast Action Collective, below.
