Track the affordability needs of every Texas state legislative district with our new tool

Texas Housers is pleased to announce the release of our Texas Legislative District Housing Profiles, a new tool to help the public and stakeholders better understand the housing affordability needs and characteristics of state legislative districts.  This tool is a nonpartisan resource intended to provide useful information to inform state housing policy discussions.

Although it is well established that across Texas the households that experience the greatest housing cost burden are low-income renter households, there has not until now been a tool that clarifies how this plays out at the state legislative district level. Our new tool allows any user to explore helpful housing affordability data with visualizations to break down the scope of housing needs in their Texas House or Senate District. The Profiles include information on housing cost burden, household income, household race/ethnicity, and the availability of federally subsidized housing. This helps clarify the picture of needs that exist and the extent to which they are being addressed by existing programs.

The Profiles are available as a printer-friendly excel spreadsheet (but can be opened in Google Sheets for those without access to Microsoft Excel) and are best viewed on a computer or tablet.

If you’re not sure which district to look up, the Texas Legislature has helpful tools to help you identify your district and others:
