Texas housing community calls of Legislature to provide $40 million per year for the Texas Housing Trust Fund

This week a group of about 100 people concerned with affordable housing for low income families met in Austin to endorse a dedicated revenue source to provide $40 million per year for the Texas Housing Trust Fund.

The group resolved to support the request of the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs to the Texas Legislature for an appropriation of $20 million per year in general revenue funds as well as to recommend that the state establish a dedicated fee to endow the Texas Housing Trust Fund with $40 million per year through a $10 per document fee on all documents filed with county clerks in the county deed records.

In the coming days Kristin Carlisle, who is heading up this effort, will post more infomration about the campaign which is being coordinated by Housing Texas.

I started my commitment to housing justice for people and communities with low incomes in 1975 in Austin's Clarksville community. These years of working side-by-side with dedicated community leaders to find solutions to housing and community development challenges have taught me some things and I’m learning new things every day.
