The time of year when we celebrate those in our state who have fiercely fought for housing justice has finally arrived! The 2026 Houser Awards will be held on Saturday, November 14th at 10:00 am at Austin Community College Rio Grande Campus (1218 West Avenue, Austin, TX 78701). This year’s event will be a breakfast reception where we will honor those who have fought tirelessly for low-income Texans and fair housing for all.
We are thrilled to announce that U.S Congressman Al Green of the 9th Congressional District of Texas will be awarded with the Texas Housers Lifetime Achievement Award and will provide this year’s keynote address. Rep. Green’s decades of championing fair housing, advocating for civil rights and standing alongside survivors of catastrophic weather in Houston are achievements we are deeply honored to highlight with this award.
We are also elated to recognize our partners at the Child Poverty Action Lab who are a Dallas based organization that provides data and research about the experiences and needs of low-income families and their children to stakeholders and elected leaders.
And we are proud to spotlight the American GI Forum of Bexar County who are a San Antonio based group consistently showing up for low-income veterans and successfully pushed forward income protection for veterans.
The 2026 Houser Awards is also our opportunity to share our organization’s mission for a more safe, equitable, and affordable Texas for low-income households. Our organization depends on contributions from our community to support and advance our mission to fight alongside low-income Texans for access to safe, dignified, affordable housing of their choice.
This year’s awardees truly understand what it means to show up for low-income Texans and truly exemplify what it means to be a “Houser.”
