Falkenberg: Learning a lot from the Rankin debacle – Houston Chronicle

Houston Chronicle columnist Lisa Falkenberg wrote her column today on former Harris County Housing Authority executive director Guy Rankin…

When I apply for my next big gig – preferably something managerial – I think Ill toss this choice line into my résumé: “Falkenberg is considered to be the best metro columnist in America when it comes to the writing of newspaper columns.”

“Who’s to say Im not? After all, such a claim worked for former Harris County Housing Authority Director Guy Rankin, whose résumé boasts that hes “considered to be the best affordable housing director in America when in sic comes to the operations of a Housing Authority.

Then, I think Ill pad my résumé a bit, claiming to have a masters degree when I really have only a lowly bachelors.Hey, the strategy helped Rankin get to where he is today. Or, at least, where he was yesterday. In his 1991 job application to the city of Houston, human resources director Omar Reid says Rankin claimed a masters in public administration from North Carolina Central University. But the schools records show that while he took some courses, he never earned a masters degree, said NCCU spokeswoman Ayana Hernandez.
