The $78 million housing bond proposal by the City of Austin was narrowly rejected by voters Tuesday. The vote was 114,330 (68.6%) for the bonds to 121,071 (51.4%) against.
Voters approved all the city’s other bonds propositions.
A smaller housing bond issue of $15 million by the City of Houston was approved by that city’s voters.
In 2006, 63% of Austin voters supported issuing $55 million in general obligation bonds. Once the percent analysis is complete and I get a chance to talk to the supporters of the Austin bonds I’ll post a more detailed post mortem analysis of the 2012 bond proposition.
