Video: TxLIHIS’ Kevin Jewell explains what the Housing Working Group is all about.
Each legislative session, Texas Low Income Housing Information Service (TxLIHIS) hosts a bi-weekly Housing Working Group for organizations working on housing issues with the legislature. The 2015 meetings kicked off on Jan. 8 at the Capitol, as housing advocates, providers, non-profit agencies and other interested parties gathered for a roundtable discussion.
The working group, which will meet every other Thursday for the rest of the session and is open to the public, is a chance for those involved with housing around the state to come together to talk about the issues and learn about upcoming legislation. At the introductory meeting, participants discussed the issues they’ll be tracking through the legislature in 2015, including bills affecting farm workers, disabled veterans, survivors of family violence, colonia residents and much more.
