Texas Housers Houston co-director
Our Houston co-director Chrishelle Palay has been selected as one of America’s top 40 urban innovators aged 40 or younger for this year’s Next City Vanguard Conference.
The Vanguard class, chosen via a competitive application process, will meet in Chrishelle’s native Houston from May 10-14. The group includes government officials and policymakers, architects, designers and artists, academics, nonprofit professionals and advocates and more. At the conference, the 2016 Vanguard class will participate in workshops and discussions around issues including urban development, public policy and infrastructure. Local hosts such as the Kinder Institute for Urban Research at Rice University will also lead tours and field visits around Houston.
There is certainly no shortage of urban issues to discuss in Houston, one of the fastest-growing cities in the country and one with serious problems of infrastructure inequality, gentrification, widening economic divisions and dramatic racial housing segregation. Few people are more qualified to discuss ideas and solutions around these issues than Chrishelle (here she is on the local news last week speaking about public housing discrimination).
Congratulations to Chrishelle for this well-deserved honor!
